World Book Day – a whole school celebration!
The Beast from the East could not deter our World Book Day celebrations on Thursday 1st March! World Book Day was a whole school celebration of our love of reading and we marked this event in true Trinity style!
We started the day with our reading breakfast in the LRC, over 40 students attended and had to do a double take as members of staff had braved the arctic conditions dressed as their favourite book characters! Mrs Smith and Miss Khalid had turned the English corridor into a set that would rival Hogwarts itself!
We had a whole school tutor time quiz taking place with rounds on subjects from classic literature to film adaptations. Every student received their World Book Day token and our ‘Pop up Book Shop’ provided the ideal opportunity for many students to exchange their token for a World Book Day book. Over 100 students had exchanged their token by the end of lunch time.
As this year’s World Book Day centred around the campaign to ‘Share a story,’ we had storytelling taking place in each and every lesson throughout the day. This year we chose to share Roald Dahl short stories in Key Stage 3 and 4 and the whole school took part in our ‘Drop everything and read’ initiative during period 2 lessons.
More activities took place throughout lunchtime and as the temperature outside dropped, it could not dampen our spirits as the whole school came together to celebrate our love of literature and reading for pleasure!
Just as a reminder – students can still exchange their token for a World Book Day book at participating bookshops including Asda, Morrisons, WHSmith, Waterstones etc. The token can also be used get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop. This offer runs until the end of March. Alternatively, all students received a Scholastic Magazine and can exchange their token for £1 off any item in the magazine. Please contact Mrs Stafford for more information.
