Our Curriculum model
- Holy Trinity operates a horizontal tutoring system where each form group is made up of mixed ability students.
- In teaching periods, students are grouped using ASPIRE. Most subject areas have five groups with the exception of Maths, Science, Religious Education and English who have an additional intervention group. Practical subjects such as PE, Creative Arts and Technology have six groups.
- Students participate in a Personal Social Development (PSD) lesson twice a week in Year 7, 8 and 9
- Students are taught mostly in mixed ability groups with the exception of Maths and Science.
- We have an ACCESS group in Year 7 which meets a range of needs from early language acquisition to social, emotional and nurturing needs. This provides our students with a more supported start to their secondary education.
Key stage 4
- Students are taught a core curriculum of Maths, English, Science and RE
- Students are also taught one hour of PE per week in mixed ability groups (no examination)
- There are six groups for core subjects, including RE
- Students study a further three subjects at GCSE level or the equivalent i.e. Technical Awards
- Students choose their options during Year 9. These groups are mixed ability.
